Scenario-Based Learning and Vocabulary Acquisition
The course follows a scenario-based learning approach, where students progressively acquire common vocabulary and sentence patterns across different topics. Vocabulary preparation is supported by Quizlet, offering core vocabulary with English and French translations, as well as images to aid in recognising Chinese characters. Regular review and consolidation through audio tools and Quizlet help reinforce vocabulary and grammar retention.
Listening comprehension is developed through watching videos, allowing students to understand the full text and practice both listening and speaking skills. Grammar observation and practice are emphasised, with students analysing grammatical structures in the text and consolidating their understanding through active practice. Supplementary YouTube videos are used for in-depth grammar explanations, ensuring a strong grasp of the language’s rules.
Character Recognition and Cultural Insights
The course also focuses on learning Chinese characters, encouraging students to categorise and dissect characters by their radicals to improve recognition. Reading practice, including shadow reading, is incorporated to help learners fully follow the rhythm of the audio. In addition, cultural development is nurtured by exploring cultural stories, enhancing learners’ understanding of the cultural context behind the language.

The ‘Qiānzìwén’ is made up of a thousand Chinese characters, divided into 250 phrases of four characters each. The form is regular and the rhythm harmonious, making it easy to read and memorise. The content reflecting a rich cultural depth.
